Empowering Tomorrow, Today: GIIS KL’s Eco-Saviours Shine at GED-MCOP in Singapore

When passionate young minds roll up their sleeves for our planet, incredible things happen. From September 21st to 23rd, 2026, the global spotlight turned to Singapore as bright changemakers gathered for the Global Excellence Day & Mock Conference of Parties (GED-MCOP) event. Among the shining stars were our very own Standard 5 students from GIIS KL: Malank Patra and Yuvaan Kaushik, accompanied by their dedicated mentor, Ms. Shakti Misra.

Representing GIIS KL with boundless enthusiasm, the team stepped up to the international stage to present their visionary project, "EcoSpark AI," centered around the critical mission of reducing carbon footprints and championing environmental sustainability.

EcoSpark AI wasn't just a classroom concept; it was a journey of deep discovery. The students dove headfirst into extensive research, crafting interactive presentations and running awareness activities to decode how everyday human actions ripple through the ecosystem. Determined to make a tangible impact beyond school walls, they spearheaded awareness drives right within their community, inspiring fellow students to adopt eco-friendly, responsible habits.

Their dedication paid off brilliantly when EcoSpark was selected to represent GIIS KL in Singapore. On the international platform, Malank and Yuvaan confidently showcased their research, creative solutions, and forward-thinking ideas, earning glowing praise and thunderous applause from the judges and fellow participants alike. Adding an extra layer of triumph to the event, Malank Patra secured a well-deserved Commendation Award in Grades 1–5 for the competition!

The EcoSpark initiative brilliantly aligns with vital United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Quality Education (SDG 4), Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure (SDG 9), Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11), Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12), and Climate Action (SDG 13), while embodying the core values of global citizenship and innovation.

Projects like EcoSpark prove that when young minds take the helm of environmental stewardship, our planet's future is in the safest and most caring hands imaginable. Congratulations to Malank, Yuvaan, and Ms. Shakti Misra for making GIIS KL immensely proud on the global stage!
